For our visual communication pathway we were asked to modify our chosen image to prepare it for screen printing.

I chose the crows painting from blackburn museum, to fit in with the museum project.
Original image

Before i even properly got started - even the best image i managed to take at the museum wasn't good enough, so i had to fix it by cropping, straightening and warping the painting until it looked straight.

result of straightening, cropping, warping and increasing the contrast a little.

Jo asked us to make the contrast of our image really bright, so for a basic start she asked us to adjust the threshold. unfortunately, my image wasn't that simple to modify. Due to the multiple light shades etc, you couldn't really make out all the different features such as the sunset and the birds.

I got around this firstly, by changing the image into black and white and then going to brightness and contrast and making the contrast higher and the brightness lower.

From then i thought i'd have a play with the filter gallery, this was called 'Watercolour"

Then i thought i should play with the layers and have all the edges really tidy for papercraft.
I made multiple layers of the same image and on one went to filter > find edges to make the edges really dark. i then lowered the opacity of the layer so the background would show through.
The background is just made simple black and white block by adjusting the threshold.
I finally added a poem about crows in place of the sunset.
