Personal statement:
I am twenty one years old, I have a three year old daughter and I am a photographer. The
decision to continue my studies at degree level has not been as straight forward as my peer
group. A degree means more to me. More sacrifice, more time spent away from my daughter, more
restricted income and more pressure to make this medium work for me. It is therefor worth more
to me.
I am determined to develop my practice and become the best photographer I can. Despite the
pressures, I chose to work for one more year on the Foundation Art, Design, Media, Photography
and Textiles course at Blackburn College. I had previously achieved a Merit on the Btec
National Diploma on Photography but decided to broaden my portfoliom, experiment with my own
work and meet new people, both students and lectureres.
All areas of photography interest me, and I am influenced by a wide range of photographers and
artists. In terms of future employment, I see myself working in print, documenting musicians
and live events, perhaps even collaborating with writers and journalists in oreder to
illustrate the story, activity or event.
I feel that working on foundation has been the correct decision a sit has allowed me to
develop this practice. As a result, my confidence and work is imprving daily. I am now ready
for the challenges of H.E. and am determined to succeed.
