Materials and equipment used so far and why:
- Tripod
Essential for steady landscape photographs as I am using long exposure
- 50mm lens
Maximum aperture 1.8mm, useful for shallow depth of field and low light
- 18-55mm lens
Adjustable focal length meaning I have the option of both wide angle and close up photographs resulting in a more varied body of work.
- Canon 600D
Digital DSLR, 18mpx, ISO settings of 100-6400 (expandable to 12800 if in need), 1080p HD recording, vari-angle LCD screen with Live view.
- Lens filters
Graduated Neutral Density to increase dynamic range of photograph and bring out skies & a Polarizer to remove reflection.
- Flash gun
To Illuminate Foreground subject whilst keeping the background dramatic.
Techniques used so far and why:
- Long exposures
Used for various things: To let more light hit the sensor for star images and to make flowing water look dream like and silky
- Wide open apertures
To create an intense depth of field and again, to let more light hit the sensor when shooting in the dark.
- Image stacking
Used for my star trails, many images stacked on top of each other to produce one single photograph.

I have applied for a BA photography course at Manchester Met uni. I originally was planning to stay in blackburn but the chance arose for me to upgrade to a big city, which, although will be tough, i feel it will benefit me greatly as i will have the chance to be in a big city with inspiration all around me. At this point in time, I will be aiming for a career path which involves shooting rock bands, either live or promotional which are greatly accessible in a big city such as manchester.
Whilst being on The FAD course i have had the chance to engage in all different aspects of art, from textiles, to sculpting and i feel as though i have broadened my ideas by being a part of it.
